Job Summary
Conduct bench-level experiments, operate analytical instruments, and recover research data for the laboratory of Dr. Taran Gujral. Culture and maintain cancer cell lines, prepare samples for biochemical and PCR-based assays, and perform drug efficacy studies in mice. Prepare tissue sections for histology, analyze assay data using software packages, and present research at lab meetings and conferences. Write, submit, and publish scientific papers while working independently and as part of a team. This role offers a rich environment to learn cell biology and the drug discovery process. Candidates must be flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biological science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework (or equivalent combination of advanced degree and work experience)
- Prior experience with small animal handling is required
- Must be flexible and willing to work some evenings and weekends as needed to complete time-sensitive experiments
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related scientific field preferred
- Experience working with cancer mouse models is preferred
- Experience with tissue culture and standard molecular biological techniques (DNA and RNA extraction), protein isolation and analysis (gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting, etc.), and microbiology techniques preferred
- The technician must show initiative, willingness to take up new skills and responsibilities, and be a team player
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position
- Good communication, responsiveness to feedback, and organizational skills
