Job Summary
Conduct standard and investigative laboratory work supporting scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, and recovering, compiling, and verifying the accuracy of research data. Prepare samples for biochemical and PCR-based assays, culture cancer cell lines, and perform drug efficacy studies in mice. Analyze assay data using software packages and prepare tissue sections for histology work while maintaining collections and presenting findings during lab meetings. This 100% onsite role at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center's Seattle South Lake Union campus offers the opportunity to publish scientific papers and work within Dr. Taran Gujral's Division of Human Biology. Candidates must be flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biological science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework (or equivalent combination of advanced degree and work experience)
- Prior experience with small animal handling is required
- Must be flexible and willing to work some evenings and weekends as needed to complete time-sensitive experiments
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related scientific field preferred
- Experience working with cancer mouse models is preferred
- Experience with tissue culture and standard molecular biological techniques (DNA and RNA extraction), protein isolation and analysis (gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting, etc.), and microbiology techniques preferred
- The technician must show initiative, willingness to take up new skills and responsibilities, and be a team player
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position, as are good communication, responsiveness to feedback, and organizational skills
