Job Summary
The Research Specialist II (Goat Specialist) is responsible for the daily care, health monitoring, and productivity assessment of approximately 450 goats at the International Goat Research Center. Responsibilities include daily herd inspections, health monitoring, treatment administration, and maintaining animal health records; perform daily feeding operations, monitor feed, assist with pasture rotation and water management; provide breeding assistance, estrus monitoring, kidding support, and breeding documentation; support Alpine dairy herd operations through dairy goat support, milking assistance, and sanitation duties; maintain barns, fencing, shelters, feeding equipment, and overall livestock facilities; document herd productivity, health treatments, assessments, and reporting to support operations and research; participate in college-wide events; perform other duties as assigned. Required education and experience include a Bachelor’s Degree and six years of related experience; preferred qualifications include seven years in herd management with health monitoring, breeding, recordkeeping; knowledge of goat breeds, behavior, veterinary practices; ability to identify signs of illness and reproductive inefficiency; strong organizational and observational skills; ability to work independently and with both meat and dairy goats; familiarity with livestock management software or recordkeeping systems; basic understanding of animal science or agricultural research. Other requirements include ability to lift moderately heavy objects, exert heavy force, and work beyond normal hours with potential weekend and outdoor duties. This role is funded by restricted funds or a grant and is contingent upon renewal of funds; immigration sponsorship information is provided for potential applicants.
