Job Summary
The Research Specialist II (Goat Specialist) cares for ~450 goats at the International Goat Research Center, performing daily herd inspections, health monitoring, treatment administration, feeding, pasture rotation, and water management. Responsibilities include breeding assistance, estrus monitoring, kidding support, and breeding documentation; support Alpine dairy herd operations through dairy goat milking assistance and sanitation; maintain barns, fencing, shelters, feeding equipment, and livestock facilities; document herd productivity and health treatments to support operations and research; participate in college-wide events and perform other duties as assigned. Requires a Bachelor's Degree and six years of related experience, with strong multitasking, teamwork, animal-health knowledge, recordkeeping, and ability to work outdoors, including after-hours or weekend work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Six years of related experience
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
- Knowledge of goat breeds, behavior, and basic veterinary practices
- Strong organizational and observational skills
- Ability to identify signs of illness, aging, and reproductive inefficiency
- Experience with both meat and dairy goat operations
- Familiarity with livestock management software or recordkeeping systems
- Basic understanding of animal science or agricultural research
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects
- Ability to exert heavy force
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Holiday work may be required
- Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends
