Job Summary
Research Specialist supports and contributes to Ottawa Tourism’s research and lead-generation for business development. Acts as liaison between event planners, industry partners, local champions and BE&ME sales managers; identifies and qualifies prospective sources of business and major events; manages progression of leads from research to bid phase; sources Local Organizing Committee members to support Ottawa bids; maintains CRM data integrity; supports the Think Ottawa program through research, cold-calling, emailing, and leveraging social media to reach potential local leaders. Based in Ottawa with a hybrid work model; requires collaboration with Sales Managers, stakeholders, and external networks; 3+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree/diploma, strong English communications, CRM proficiency, and knowledge of tourism/hospitality and event hosting industries.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Commerce, Marketing, Communications or other related program
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel
- Expert use of web search tools and LinkedIn
- Strong oral and written English communication; bilingual ability considered an asset
- Ability to build external relationships and manage stakeholder engagement
- Knowledge of relational databases; experience with CRMs (e.g., IDSS, Simpleview, Salesforce)
- Experience in tourism or hospitality industry
- Knowledge of meeting planning and/or major events/sport event hosting industries
- Business development, lead generation, and/or sales experience
- Account management or sales coordination experience
- Demonstrated success in generating qualified leads and closing sales
- Demonstrated success in developing a portfolio of varied clientele
Desired Qualifications
- Fully bilingual in both of Canada’s official languages, both written and verbal
- Experience working in tourism, hospitality, or destination management/marketing
- Knowledge of the Meeting Planning and/or Major Events/Sport Event hosting industries
- Business development, lead generation, and/or sales experience
- Demonstrated success in generating qualified leads and closing sales
- Demonstrated success in developing a portfolio of varied clientele
- Significant experience in CRM/database management
- Strong communication – verbal and written – in English; a second language is an asset
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel
