Job Summary
Conduct independent and collaborative research in machine learning or quantum information science, including statistical learning theory, privacy-preserving computation, and quantum error-correction. Supervise and mentor early-career researchers such as PhD students and postdoctoral researchers while actively developing externally funded research proposals through national and European programmes like the Research Council of Norway and Horizon Europe. Contribute to collaborative research activities within the Centre for Quantum Communication Networks and Applications and the Centre for Sustainable, Risk-averse and Ethical AI.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in information theory, computer science, applied mathematics or a related discipline
- Expertise in machine learning and/or quantum information science
- Experience in statistical learning theory, privacy-preserving machine learning, or quantum information theory
- Demonstrated ability to conduct both independent and collaborative, high-impact research
- Experience in leading and publishing in leading international venues
- Supervisory experience, including supervising PhD students and junior researchers
- Experience contributing to research leadership, including shaping collaborative research activities or developing new research directions
- Experience in managing research projects
- Experience in securing competitive research funding
- Excellent communication skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Ability to conduct research in machine learning (ML), including statistical learning theory and distributed and privacy-preserving computation, or quantum information science, including quantum information theory, quantum error-correction, quantum computing and communications, and quantum algorithms
- Ability to prepare and coordinate research proposals at both the national and European levels, particularly through programmes such as the Research Council of Norway (RCN) and Horizon Europe, including the European Research Council (ERC)
