Research Scientist III
On-site · Redmond, Washington, United States
Job Summary
Design, build and automate an established workflow for the experimental screening of organic materials, enabling data acquisition for development of novel optoelectronic materials. Develop next-generation optoelectronic materials with emphasis on design, fabrication, and analysis; collaborate with the Reality Labs team to understand goals and bottlenecks in AR/VR; build and understand equipment for high-throughput experiments; design and automate crystal growth, processing, and analysis techniques; communicate results internally and with external partners; assist in translating research results to practical Meta product development.
Required Qualifications
- PhD or Masters in Physics, Chemistry, Optical Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant technical field
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment and maintain ongoing work authorization
- Experience programming hardware interfaces (e.g., serial/I2C/SPI communication, DAQ systems, motion control) using Python, LabVIEW, C, or similar languages
- 2+ years experience in at least one of: chemistry, materials, organic materials, crystallization, nucleation, solid state analysis, optoelectronic materials
- 2+ years experience, experimental laboratory work (i.e., demonstrated ability to take concepts, adapt them and translate them to the bench-top)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience designing, building, and automating experimental workflows
- Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication of results to internal and external partners
- Experience with high-throughput experimentation
- Proficiency in Python, LabVIEW, C, or similar languages
- Experience with crystal growth, crystallization, and nucleation
- Experience with solid-state analysis (XRD, DSC) and optical characterization
- Experience with HPLC, LC-MS, UV/Vis, and GC
- Experience with CAD software is a plus
- Strong publication track record is a plus
- Ability to translate research results to practical applications in product development
