Job Summary
This role seeks candidates at Research Scientist levels I–III or Senior Research Scientist to advance DoD/military biomedical research within the 4DBio3 program. Primary focus areas include Manufactured Blood Product Development (stem-cell–based large-scale blood cell production, engineering animal-derived blood products, and synthetic substitutes) and Organoid/Advanced In Vitro Model Development (organoids, organ-on-a-chip, tissue engineering, 3D culture). Responsibilities include executing research studies, analyzing data, writing SOPs, drafting abstracts/manuscripts, guiding grant proposals, conducting scientific reviews, and leading multifunctional teams. The position emphasizes research integrity, regulatory compliance (OSHA/GLP; IACUC/IRB documentation), procurement within budgets, mentoring entry-level staff, and communicating findings to diverse audiences and senior leadership. Potential for a faculty appointment at USUHS; evergreen access to future openings with Geneva Foundation as administrator. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and interact with sponsors, clinicians, and researchers across DoD and federal settings is essential.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant field
- 4-6 years experience in laboratory research
- Working knowledge of experimental design
- Familiarity with grant funding and proposal development
- Experience in cell and/or tissue culture (as applicable)
- Ability to pass background checks
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written)
- Experience working in DoD/DoW or other Federal research environments
- Ability to supervise research personnel and manage multiple projects
