Job Summary

Research Scientist/Engineer 2 supports genetic-variation research in neurodegenerative disease, focusing on Alzheimer’s genes. Role combines molecular biology and RNA sequencing-based approaches to study gene regulation in human brain tissues and model systems. Responsibilities include tissue culture, tissue-assay work (gene reporter assays, functional validation), transcript isoform studies via qRT-PCR and short/long-read RNA sequencing, and protein-level assays (Western blotting, flow cytometry). Project management duties encompass mentoring trainees and assisting with manuscripts, grant applications, and progress reports. Laboratory management includes inventory and safety compliance. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics/Genome Sciences/Molecular Biology and at least two years of related lab experience; preferred qualifications include MS/PhD, experience with DNA library prep for NGS, RNA-seq data analysis, command-line skills (R/Python/Bash), and familiarity with long-read sequencing. This is a fully in-person position located in Seattle, WA.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Genetics, Genome Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a related biomedical field
  • minimum of two years of laboratory research experience in molecular biology, genome sciences, or human genetics
  • hands-on experience designing and executing reporter assays to evaluate the functional impact of genetic variants
  • Willingness and ability to work in a BSL-2 laboratory environment
