Job Summary

Research Programme Officer will conduct behavioural observations of bears in ex-situ pre-release facilities, identify and engage potential release site partners, assist in assessing release sites and bear population threats, deliver community outreach and social science research, perform post-release monitoring when applicable, and maintain field equipment. The role involves inventorying research and field equipment, designing and conducting bear research projects in coordination with the Research Programme Manager, and supporting data collection, management, and report writing. Requires at least a Bachelor (preferably Master’s) in Biodiversity Conservation or related field, at least 1 year of wildlife field research experience, ability to work independently, fluency in Khmer and English, strong computer skills, and willingness to work weekends with occasional fieldwork across Cambodia. Contract is full-time for one year with extension possible, 8 hours/day, 5 days/week, 3-month probation, with benefits including salary, taxes and social insurance covered, 13th month salary, fieldwork/travel expenses paid, and potential international travel after probation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Biodiversity Conservation, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or similar
  • 1 year of field research experience implementing wildlife research, supervising teams, and ensuring high quality data collection and adhering to strict research protocols
  • Fluency in spoken and written Khmer, and good English communication skills
  • Good computer literacy including familiarity with Excel and similar spreadsheet programs
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Capacity to operate in field environments with minimal amenities
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities for diverse groups
  • Willingness to work on weekends and National Holidays when required
