Job Summary
Develop and deploy chemometric and multivariate models using spectroscopic and analytical data to monitor and diagnose fuel and refinery process performance. Apply PCA, PLS/PLS-DA, regression, classification, and machine learning to model properties of fuels and refinery intermediates; create predictive analytics for monitoring quality events, fouling, and corrosion; integrate laboratory, spectroscopic, and process data into actionable analytical solutions; collaborate with refinery labs, process engineers, and digital teams to deploy models in operations; evaluate third-party tools and data platforms; provide ongoing model maintenance and performance monitoring; contribute to safety reviews and HSSE-aligned practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, physical science, or a closely related field (required). MS or PhD preferred, with demonstrated focus on applied mathematics, statistics, or data science applied to chemical systems.
- 4+ years of experience in analytical chemistry, chemometrics, process analytics, or related roles in industry or academia.
- Hands-on experience with analytical instruments and laboratory data workflows.
- Experience applying classical and modern modeling techniques, including PCA, PLS, SVM, regression, classification, and machine learning approaches.
- Understanding of spectroscopic methods and quantitative analysis techniques including infrared, Raman, UV-vis, XRF, ICP, NMR, GC, and MS.
- Working proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and/or R for data analysis and modeling.
