Job Summary
We are seeking a Research Officer to support the Clean Energy Innovation (CEI) research center. You will accelerate design, synthesis, scale-up, characterization and validation of novel powder materials for clean energy applications by applying computational tools to materials research and development. You will lead development and application of tools for accelerating discovery and demonstration of new materials, manage and deliver R&D projects, and lead collaborative research teams and partnerships with academia and other government departments. Your responsibilities include development of new research initiatives, preparation of research proposals, management of projects, and leadership of collaborative teams, with a focus on plasma-based powder R&D (micro- and nano-particles synthesis, spheroidization, reconditioning, functionalization, thermal treatment, and characterization) at CEI Mississauga. Technical competencies include applying DFT, MD, CFD for materials design and process optimization, materials synthesis/characterization, AI/ML expertise as an asset, and strong collaboration/communication skills. The role requires a PhD and at least five years of relevant experience, with an emphasis on delivering innovative solutions and building partnerships; this is a full-time position located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, with formal eligibility considerations and relocation guidance as per NRC directives.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in materials science, metallurgy, chemical engineering or engineering physics or related areas
- at least five years’ experience in Computational Materials and Process Simulation
- significant experience in applying simulation and modeling tools for materials design and process optimization
- experience in materials synthesis and characterization
- experience working in multidisciplinary research teams and managing projects
- experience in developing and overseeing external research partnerships and collaborations
- knowledge of and experience with high-throughput experimentation, automation, or AI/ML would be asset

- English language requirements (Assessment criteria in English)
