Job Summary
Research Engineer II position to design and execute engineering research and development assignments supporting the Advanced Structures and Composites Center’s mission in composites and structures. Responsibilities include designing and conducting experimental test campaigns, analyzing data, and developing innovative solutions for real-world engineering challenges. Proficiency in numerical modeling, CAD/CAE development, and programming to enhance research capabilities in large-scale additive manufacturing, transportation infrastructure, and advanced materials. Prepare technical reports, research proposals, and presentations; mentor undergraduate researchers; stay current with emerging technologies. The role contributes to maintaining the center’s leadership in interdisciplinary research. Salary up to $85,000 for a soft-money funded position.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical, MET, or Structural Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three to five years of professional experience
- Advanced coursework or equivalent experience in advanced composites, finite element modeling, engineering design, advanced mechanics of materials
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and constant deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- This position requires access to information regulated under U.S. Export Control regulations and therefore individuals must qualify as a U.S. Person under U.S. Export Control Regulations
