Job Summary
Frontier Safety Risk Assessment team at Google DeepMind seeks 2 Research Engineers to contribute novel research and engineering to measure and assess risks from frontier AI models. You will identify new risk pathways (loss of control, ML R&D, cyber, CBRN, harmful manipulation), design and develop methods to measure pre-mitigation and post-mitigation risk, and perform forecasting and scenario planning for risks not yet materialized. The role blends research and engineering, requiring comfort with uncertainty and rapid familiarity with internal/external codebases, primarily using Python. Responsibilities include contributing to risk measurement systems, advancing evaluation frameworks, and collaborating across teams to ensure mitigations are effective and scalable. Required Qualifications
- PhD in machine learning or related field (advantageous)
- extensive research experience with deep learning or foundation models
