Research Associate Specialist (Weed Science)

Job Summary
Coordinate and support weed science research across multiple crops (corn, cotton, grain sorghum, oats, soybean, sesame, wheat) at Dean Lee Research Station with some off-station travel. Responsibilities include soil sampling, field scouting, spraying, planting, harvesting research plots, and maintaining agricultural equipment (ATVs, trailers, weigh wagons, tractors, sprayers). Requires proficiency with Word/Excel/PowerPoint and ability to maintain information exchange on LSU AgCenter websites; develop working relationships with station scientists, extension agents, and agribusiness personnel. Emphasis on agronomic crop production knowledge and hands-on field/lab tasks; position is grant-funded and non-tenure track, with benefits and potential for continuation dependent on funding.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in plant sciences, agronomy, horticulture, plant pest management, or related discipline
- Computer skills required
- Farming and/or research experience desirable but not necessary; MS preferred
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a field of plant science; master's degree desired
- Applicants with degrees in other agricultural or basic science fields considered with substantial plant science experience
