Job Summary

Conduct sea turtle abundance, demographic, and movement research in the western North Atlantic, Gulf of America, and Caribbean waters. Manage scientific data collection and sample management, including vessel operation for in-water surveys. Support completion of research activities that generate high-quality scientific information needed to understand, manage, and recover sea turtles and their habitats. Work independently to complete complex tasks with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Travel to field research sites is required. Located at the NOAA Fisheries Southeast Fisheries Science Center in Beaufort, NC.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in physical or life sciences, or other related field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with scientific data collection and data and/or sample management
  • Experience directly with in-water sea turtle surveys and/or research, including vessel operation
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Good problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to plan daily duties
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to complete complex tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Travel to field research sites required

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with database management
  • Proficiency in small vessel maintenance and operation
