Job Summary
Conduct experiments on neonatal rodent and fetal sheep brain hypoxia models, including animal surgery, tissue sectioning, and molecular techniques like western blotting. Perform data analysis for histology, electrophysiology, and behavioral studies while maintaining rigorous recordkeeping. Design and execute research protocols under supervision of senior faculty and postdoctoral fellows, attending weekly lab meetings to present progress. Handle live mice and sheep with prior experience, providing surgical support in a sterile operating room. Manage independent research aspects of NIH-funded projects focused on neuronal development and learning mechanisms.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences
- Associate's degree in Life Sciences
- 3 years of relevant experience
- 4 years of relevant experience
- Equivalent combination of training and experience
- Comfortable handling rodents (neonatal and adult)
- Familiarity with basic Molecular Biology techniques (PCR, RT-PCR)
- Familiarity with basic Microscopy
- Computer knowledge/skills
- Good communication skills
- Excellent recordkeeping
- Ability to work independently while functioning within a team environment
- Prior small or large animal handling experience
Desired Qualifications
- Coursework taken pertaining to Neurobiology/Neuroscience or Physiology
- Confocal/fluorescence microscopy
- Cell culture techniques
- Handling fixed/frozen tissue sections for immunohistochemistry
- Mouse genetics
- Protein assays
- Experience in advanced molecular biology, biochemistry techniques
- Enthusiasm about their work
- High motivation to succeed in a multi-disciplinary/multi-collaborator setting
