Job Summary
Design and conduct experiments involving neonatal mice and fetal sheep models to study hypoxia's impact on brain development, including animal handling, surgical support, and tissue preparation. Perform data analysis, record-keeping, and present research findings at weekly lab meetings. Gain hands-on experience with histology, electrophysiology, MRI analysis, and molecular techniques like western blotting under faculty supervision. This role supports NIH-funded projects focused on neuronal development and learning mechanisms, offering training in both rodent and large animal neuroscience research.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences
- Associate's degree in Life Sciences
- 3 years of relevant experience
- 4 years of relevant experience
- Equivalent combination of training and experience
- Comfortable handling rodents (neonatal and adult)
- Familiarity with basic Molecular Biology techniques (PCR, RT-PCR)
- Familiarity with basic Microscopy
- Computer knowledge/skills
- Good communication skills
- Excellent recordkeeping
- Ability to work independently while functioning within a team environment
- Prior small or large animal handling experience
Desired Qualifications
- Coursework taken pertaining to Neurobiology/Neuroscience or Physiology
- Confocal/fluorescence microscopy
- Cell culture techniques
- Handling fixed/frozen tissue sections for immunohistochemistry
- Mouse genetics
- Protein assays
- Experience in advanced molecular biology, biochemistry techniques
- Enthusiasm about their work
- High motivation to succeed in a multi-disciplinary/multi-collaborator setting
