Job Summary
Research Assistant I supports the laboratory of Dr. Julie Law within the Harnessing Plants Initiative CRoPS program, performing molecular biology and microscopy techniques to study gene regulation at genetic and epigenetic levels, phenotyping Arabidopsis lines, genotyping and maintaining plant lines, designing constructs to assess gene function, staining and preparing samples for microscopy, and collaborating with the research team to document experiments and analyze data.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences
- No professional experience required
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a scientific role is required for consideration of a Bachelor’s degree in a different discipline
- Prior experience or internships in a laboratory setting (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience with molecular biology knowledge, specifically with plant development and molecular genetics (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience with confocal microscopy (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience with staining, embedding, slicing (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience with primer design, PCR, qPCR, cloning, DNA/RNA extractions, bacterial transformation, plasmid DNA extraction (preferred)
- Knowledge of regulations and compliance standards (preferred)
- Microsoft Office (required)
