Job Summary
Senior-level Eastern Regional Director to lead the Freedom Foundation’s government affairs and investigative research portfolio across multiple states (OH, IN, KY, NC, TN, MO). Responsibilities include advocating before state legislatures and regulatory bodies, drafting bill text and amendments, generating grassroots and coalition support for lobbying efforts, leading independent research projects (e.g., union funding of elections, campaign finance compliance), coordinating with labor relations, conducting media interviews, writing for outlets, and coordinating with the Director of Labor Relations to assist public employees seeking to form or decertify unions. Travel 10–15 weeks/year; remote staff across the country; reports to the Director of Research and Government Affairs. Requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher, 3–5 years in government affairs or public policy, strong written and oral communication, and independent research capabilities; preferred experience includes state collective bargaining laws, public records/FOIA, and experience testing legislative or regulatory hearings and managing contract lobbyists; compensation is competitive with nonprofit sector; health insurance; 403(b); paid leave and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Three to five years working in government affairs or public policy
- Strong reading comprehension and the ability to write and speak persuasively
- Command of common office software
- Familiarity with government operations and the law
- Demonstrated judgment, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
