Job Summary
Research Accountant in Gulfport, MS focusing on accounting policy, technical accounting guidance, and financial reporting impacts. Responsibilities include researching and documenting technical accounting and reporting issues, reviewing contracts to assess disclosure impacts, evaluating effects of new accounting standards and supporting adoption, assisting in establishing accounting policies for Mississippi Power and the Southern Company system, and participating in quarterly and annual financial reporting processes. Required skills include knowledge of FASB, SEC, and FERC standards, ability to research complex accounting issues, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to interact with various levels of management; experience in utility industry accounting and regulatory requirements is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required; CPA or MBA is desirable; two years of accounting or auditing experience is required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- Two years of accounting or auditing experience is required
- Public accounting firm experience is preferred
- Research of FASB Codification experience is preferred
- Lease, software, and/or derivative accounting experience is preferred
- Utility accounting experience is desired
