Job Summary
Unloads, loads, and sorts donations to prepare merchandise for the sales floor and assist with store displays. Demonstrates customer service by answering questions from staff, donors, and clients while ringing up purchases and maintaining merchandise and store atmosphere through routine cleaning and inventory tasks. Accurately processes cash, check, and credit card transactions and collaborates with the Store Manager and agency to develop the store through regular meetings. Represents HDNBC positively by supporting volunteers and explaining policies while working weekends, opening and closing the store in morning and evening hours.
Required Qualifications
- Prefer at least 1 year of equivalent experience in working in a retail environment
- Must be able to work weekends
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to be customer focused
- Self-motivated
- Self-starter
- Knowledge of basic retail store inventory, merchandising and production
- Ability to organize, sort, and categorize items
- Ability to follow standard operating policies and procedures for all store and agency functions including processing donations, working with customers at the register, maintaining a safe and risk-free environment
- Ability to represent HDNBC in a positive manner by providing excellent customer service at all times
- Ability to be a team player
- Friendly and engaging personality with customers and clients
- Ability to support HDNBC store volunteers in the operational procedures and explain the policies as related to the job, as requested
- Effective oral and written communication with staff, volunteers and the public
- Basic knowledge or skills using Microsoft applications like Word and Outlook
- Ability to pick up and unload donations and work a flexible schedule
- Ability to run a cash register and perform all cash/check/credit card transactions
- Demonstrates experience with and sensitivity to varying cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, values, and attitudes
- Acceptance of agency philosophies regarding domestic violence, internal conflict resolutions and how decisions are made
- Physically fit
- Ability to lift large amounts of stock
- Ability to pull, and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to perform frequent bending, climbing stairs, and reaching
- Ability to open and close the store in morning and evening hours
