Job Summary
Assist veterinarians and techs during examinations, treatments, and surgeries including C-sections, TCI/surgical inseminations, and ovariohysterectomies. Handle and restrain animals safely, prepare examination rooms by cleaning and sterilizing equipment, and assist with semen collection, evaluation, processing, and shipping chilled or frozen semen. Perform progesterone and LH testing, set up reproductive ultrasound, and assist with whelping supervision, neonatal resuscitation, and feeding newborns. Administer medications and vaccinations, collect samples for basic laboratory tests, and maintain accurate medical records for breeding and inventory. Communicate with pet owners and breeders regarding care plans and timelines. Full-time hours with rotational weekend availability and on-call requirements. Salary ranges from $20-$30/hr based on experience.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting
- Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment
- Understanding of canine estrous cycles, breeding timing, gestation, and neonatal care
- Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately, and to safely work with cryogenic materials
- Willingness to work an on-call, weekend, or after-hours schedule
