Job Summary

Obtain and verify demographic and financial information for inpatients and outpatients during the registration process. Communicate insurance details to case management and financial counseling staff while completing managed care notifications. Enter laboratory and radiology orders when necessary and assess patient financial status to minimize service risk. Verify and input accurate patient data into the registration system, secure signatures on required forms, and collect applicable payments. Transport patients by wheelchair and meet age-specific needs while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to hospital privacy policies.

Required Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written form
  • Two-year experience in a hospital and/or other health care setting
  • Familiarity with third party/insurance payers and medical terminology
  • Proficiency in the use of computers
  • Specifically Microsoft products and email
  • Typing skills of 45 wpm or higher
  • Excellent telephone customer service skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication
  • Problem solving and organizational skills
  • Willingness to transport patients by wheelchair
  • Ability to meet patient age-specific needs
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

Desired Qualifications

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish
  • Experience preferably in registration, billing, cash collections or insurance requirements
  • Familiarity with third party/insurance payers and medical terminology
