Job Summary
Present stories in an interesting, accurate, and fair manner for publication by filing daily stories, features, photos, and videos as needed. Stay in contact with key sources, develop new sources, and collaborate with the city editor on coverage priorities while working well under deadline pressure. Conduct interviews in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring spelling, grammar, and syntax are accurate and correct in all stories. Experiment with new digital tools and platforms to contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, relevant reporting experience, and the ability to handle occasional driving for work assignments and shift work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field, or commensurate experience in the profession
- Relevant experience includes news reporting and writing
- Experience shooting video
- Experience using social media
- Experience creating enterprising content
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong reporting skills
- Strong writing skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong story structure skills
- An understanding of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be willing to submit and pass the necessary required checks
- Must be available for shift work
- Must be available to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours
