Job Summary
Supervise hourly employees across all phases of railroad car repair, including mechanical work, blasting, painting, and valve operations, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to verify accurate repair completion while inspecting finished work for conformance with AAR, DOT, FRA, and Company standards. Select, train, coach, and discipline staff while monitoring work in process to meet production schedules. Enforce safety programs and standard operating procedures, correcting hazardous conditions promptly to prevent injuries. Maintain accountability for quality and manage administrative duties such as labor reporting and material tracking. Perform duties during third-shift hours in an industrial environment requiring moderate to heavy physical exertion and exposure to varying weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3–5 years previous supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing, repair, or industrial environment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and regulatory documentation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and accountability
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a production environment
- Vision correctable to 20/30 for inspection and quality assurance activities
- Must be able to enter tank cars through 20‐inch manway openings
- Manual dexterity and physical coordination required for tool and equipment operation
- Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols
- On-site work arrangement: 5 days a week
- Ability and availability to work overtime as operational needs require
- Must be available for third-shift hours
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in railroad, tank car repair, or regulated industrial operations
- Strong working knowledge of AAR, DOT, and FRA rules and regulatory requirements
- Understanding of tank car design, components, and applicable regulations
- Demonstrated experience implementing quality improvement or safety initiatives
