Rental Service Manager

Job Summary
Manage the day-to-day operation and financial performance of the rental service division, overseeing P&L, revenue, and equipment utilization rates. Lead the rental shop and field teams in pump rental, temporary bypass systems, and equipment rehabilitation, ensuring fleet readiness and DOT compliance. Recruit, mentor, and train staff while coordinating emergency after-hours responses for dewatering and bypass needs. Monitor customer satisfaction, resolve escalations, and collaborate with senior managers on resource planning. Operate in office, yard, and field environments with regular travel, requiring a clean driving record and ability to lift 75 lbs. This role supports Cogent's mission to provide fluid processing solutions across industrial and municipal markets through direct employee ownership.
Required Qualifications
- Technical degree, equivalent military experience, or applicable industry-equivalent experience in lieu of degree
- Associate's degree or higher
- Minimum 3–5 years in rental equipment operations, field-service management, or related industrial service role
- Experience with equipment fleet management
- Customer coordination experience
- DOT fleet / DOT compliance experience
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record
- Class A CDL

Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, operations management, technology, or a related field
- Three or more years of rental management experience, including direct P&L responsibility
- Experience managing multi-location operations
- Knowledge of diesel-driven pump equipment
- Knowledge of HDPE pipe fusion
- Knowledge of temporary bypass systems
- Experience with rental utilization metrics
- Experience with fleet financial management
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations for diesel equipment, rigging, and field operations
- Heavy-equipment operation experience (telehandlers, skid steers, boom trucks)
- Continuous-improvement experience (Lean / Six Sigma)
