Job Summary
Senior Mortgage Underwriter responsible for underwriting FHA and conventional loans from submission to clear-to-close; apply sound credit judgment on income, assets, and liabilities, utilizing AI-assisted workflows to minimize manual tasks; serve as the strategic underwriting resource for loan officers and processors on complex files; ensure zero-defect quality and fast, compliant turn times; stay current on FHA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac guidelines and proactively share updates with production partners; work within Encompass LOS using DU/LPA outputs; collaborate with processors, loan officers, and closing teams in a fully virtual environment; remote in the U.S. with an emphasis on AI-assisted tooling to reduce manual tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Active FHA DE certification with a valid CHUMS ID
- 3–5 years of continuous, frontline retail residential mortgage underwriting experience
- Demonstrated mastery of both DU and LPA (Automated Underwriting Systems) and hands-on proficiency with Encompass LOS
- Deep working knowledge of FHA and conventional conforming guidelines; familiarity with VA, USDA, or bond/grant programs is a meaningful plus
- A self-directed, high-accountability work style
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; the ability to explain a complex credit decision clearly to an LO
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
