Job Summary
MariaDB is hiring for a Remote Database Administrator (DBA) to join the SkySQL cloud platform team. The Remote DBA team works with customers worldwide, delivering expert-level remote DBA services including monitoring, performance tuning, architecture recommendations, upgrades, backups, recoveries, and related tasks. The role involves autonomous work in a distributed, virtual environment, occasional on-call coverage to meet customer SLAs, and potential travel for company meetings. Responsibilities include performing remote DBA activities, automating tasks, setting up monitoring, health checks and reports, contributing to community content, building tooling around MariaDB, and helping improve Remote DBA practices. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, can communicate effectively in English, enjoys solving technical problems, and has hands-on experience with MariaDB/MySQL, SQL optimization, HA setups, and related tooling. Location flexibility includes Remote in Bulgaria and a Hybrid arrangement with Sofia Office, Bulgaria, with shifts and international travel as needed. The role emphasizes remote collaboration, 24x7 coverage, and customer-focused support in a global context.
Required Qualifications
- Passion for serving customers and solving technical problems
- Experience with MariaDB/MySQL and surrounding tools
- Knowledge of SQL query writing and optimization
- Knowledge of database design, administration, development or architecture
- Understanding of various high availability environments and technologies
- Very strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Tenacity with regard to customer communication & follow-up
- Comfortable working remotely (equipment provided)
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
- Experience with some sort of columnar database platform
- Previous usage of database proxying technology
