Job Summary

Trouble shoot and repair industrial refrigeration, HVAC, kitchen, and laundry equipment across food service, labs, and control areas. Diagnose pneumatic systems for building climate controls and service heating and power boilers, including annual tear downs and testing. Install structural components, connect piping and wiring, and adjust valves and pumps to control fluid, pressure, and temperature. Dismantle malfunctioning systems, replace defective parts, and interpret preventative maintenance schedules for completion. Perform daily safety evaluations and adhere to strict sanitation standards in a remote camp setting. On-call rotation required for 12-hour shifts in arctic conditions.

Required Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years' experience working on commercial or industrial equipment including but not limited to refrigeration systems, HVAC systems, kitchen and laundry appliances.
  • Universal refrigeration certification I, II, and III.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must pass all pre-employment contract requirements which may include but not limited to: hair follicle drug test, physical and fit for duty assessment and hearing test.
  • Must be able to cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers and clients.
  • Must be able to make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision.
  • Must be able to be on your feet for 12 hours per shift for the scheduled rotation.
  • Must be able to live in dormitory style settings and meet cleanliness requirements of the remote camp.
  • Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
  • Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.
  • Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle x2
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist x 2
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders x 2
  • Must be able to push horizontally with a peak force of 75 f-lbs. with two hands.
  • Must be able to perform alternate cross over toe touches x 10 each side, self-paced but continuous.
  • Must be able to functionally squat x 5, self-paced but continuous.
  • Must be able to kneel on one knee and stand. Return to kneel on opposite knee. Repeat alternate kneeling sequence x 10 for each knee, self-pace but continuous.
  • Must be able to climb up and down 12 steps x 5 for a total of 60 steps; Allow 30 second rest after climbing up and down each set of 30 steps.
  • Must be able to climb up and down 12 steps x 2 for a total of 24 steps while carrying 40 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced but continuous. Allow a 30 second rest period after climbing up and down 12 steps while carrying.
  • Must be able to climb a slanted ladder with 8 rungs x 8 repetitions for a total of 64 rungs; Allow 30 second rests after each climb (up and down) of 16 rungs, self-paced.
  • Must be able to perform a shovel test for three (3) minutes self-paced but continuous (i.e., no breaks) using a standard snow shovel with a 3 lb. weight attached to the shovel blade.
