Job Summary

Support students and young adults with learning disabilities and autism during waking night shifts (10pm–8am) by ensuring they remain awake, alert, and safe through continuous monitoring of visual and audio systems. Manage health and safety by administering medication, responding to medical emergencies such as epilepsy or diabetes, and carrying out extended feeding techniques where required. Maintain clean living environments, support toileting and physical care needs, and implement night-time learning programmes while monitoring challenging behaviour. Update statutory records, report any disclosures of abuse, and collaborate with the team to promote individual growth and self-care skills in a residential setting.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience of working with children and/or young adults with autism / learning difficulties
  • Ability to engage/relate to them through effective communication skills
  • Ability to deal with complex and challenging behaviour
  • Experience of working night shift or waking nights
  • Experience of lone working
  • Ability to act (as a result of training) in a manner which will provide the best support for the students
  • Knowledge of specific medical conditions such as epilepsy and diabetes
