Job Summary

Supervise children in daily routines, implement activity programs, and maintain a safe, clean environment while managing behavioral issues through the agency's Sanctuary philosophy. Provide feedback on treatment plans, ensure medication and meal service compliance, and complete all required documentation and training, including Van Certification for outings. Rotate between units to cover employee leave and assume shift supervisor duties as needed. This full-time position requires irregular hours including nights, weekends, and evenings.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum high school or equivalency diploma
  • Some higher education
  • Experience with children
  • Sufficient maturity to work with and relate to children
  • Commitment to following and embracing the Seven Commitments of our Sanctuary Model
  • Ability to form positive relationships with children
  • Ability to understand and respond to children's basic developmental needs
  • Ability to understand and follow agency policy and Trauma Informed Care orientation
  • Understanding of basic needs and developmental issues of children in a way that promotes growth and respects individuality
  • Asks age and developmentally appropriate questions and actively listens to children's responses
  • Develops a warm, positive, nurturing relationship with each child
  • Follows mandated reporting requirements regarding child abuse and neglect
  • Practices infection control, including appropriate hand washing procedures
  • Uses knowledge of developmental milestones, assists children in participating at their individual level of interest and ability
  • Interacts with children during meal and snack times, promoting appropriate social behavior
  • Applies knowledge of child development to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and environments
  • Adapts activities and environments to meet the special needs and situations of individual children
  • Identifies developmentally appropriate behavior and reasonable expectations for children's behavior
  • Uses observation as a way to 'get to know' children –their interests and developmental levels
  • Ability for role model and teach appropriate behavior to children
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times
  • Valid New York State drivers license
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be available for weekend shifts
  • Must be able to effectively lead and coach others
