Job Summary
Conduct trauma-informed care and strength-based mentoring for youth from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds within a 24/7 group care home environment. Form supportive relationships with children and assist them in developing skills to thrive while participating in household management tasks such as meal prep, cleaning, and yard work. Maintain physical readiness for indoor and outdoor work in all seasons, including climbing stairs and interacting with youth during recreation outings. Complete required paperwork including Criminal Records Checks, Children Services Intervention Record Checks, and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Work as part of a close-knit team to guide youth through challenges in a safe, nurturing setting.
Required Qualifications
- Warm and caring individuals who can form strong, supportive relationships with youth from diverse and often disadvantaged backgrounds and histories
- People with some level of post-secondary education
- Diplomas and degrees in Child and Youth Care or Social Work
- People who work best in a team environment
- Employees with standard employee workplace skills, including good communication, decent writing skills, punctuality in starting shifts on time, able to use technology in the workplace, and a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism
- Are physically able to do this work, including work shift work, work indoors and outdoors in all seasons, climb stairs in the group home, complete household management tasks (e.g., cleaning, meal prep, cooking, grocery shopping) and yard work (mowing lawns, planting gardens, raking leaves, shoveling snow)
- People who understand the concepts that are important to us, including trauma-informed care, strength-based approaches, Indigenous worldviews, child and youth development, child-parent attachment, therapeutic milieu of group care
- Level 1 staff will have a diploma, actively working on their post-secondary degree, and/or have life experiences/job experiences that will provide value to the role
- Level 2 staff will have a diploma or degree in human services
- A clear and current, within 6 months, Criminal Records Check
- A clear and current Children Services Intervention Record Check
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License, a clean Drivers' Abstract and 3 Full-years insurance history
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses minimum)
- If your degree came from an international institute you will be asked for an ISQA Assessment (International Qualifications Assessment Service - International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) | Alberta.ca)
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to physically interact with youth during recreation outings, etc.
