Relay Superintendent - Substation

Job Summary
Direct and supervise Technicians and contractors while developing work schedules, staffing plans, and resource allocation strategies. Provide coaching, technical guidance, and performance management for assigned personnel overseeing testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protective relays, SCADA systems, RTUs, and substation automation equipment. Lead emergency response efforts related to equipment failures, manage relay event analysis, and develop preventive maintenance programs. Ensure compliance with NERC, FERC, OSHA, and company standards while enforcing electrical safety rules and lockout/tagout procedures. Coordinate relay upgrades, substation expansions, and modernization projects, managing project budgets, schedules, and contractor performance. Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, or related field
- 8–12 years of progressive experience in utility protection and control, relay testing, or substation maintenance
- Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- 3–5 years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Experience with transmission and distribution substations up to 500 kV
