Job Summary

Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector with Bureau Veritas will perform field inspections and testing to verify that reinforcing steel, concrete placement, and related structural components comply with approved drawings, specifications, and building codes (ACI, IBC, and project requirements). Responsibilities include reading and interpreting structural drawings and rebar schedules, verifying rebar size and spacing, documenting inspections, preparing daily field reports, and communicating non-conformances. The role requires strong technical knowledge, hands-on field experience, safety focus, and the ability to travel to multiple NYC project sites. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience), minimum 2 years of NYC construction inspection experience, relevant certifications (ICC/RCSC, ACI Lanterns) and proficiency with ACI/IBC standards, plus the ability to obtain additional certifications as needed. Strong communication, QA/QC awareness, and familiarity with NYC Building Code Chapter 17 are expected, along with a valid driver’s license and commitment to safety training (OSHA 10, OSHA 30 preferred). This is a full-time role based in New York City with opportunities on building, transportation, and infrastructure projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 2 years of construction inspection experience in NYC
  • Working familiarity with Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Code
  • Certification: ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector OR ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector – Level II OR ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I OR ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector
  • ICC Soils Special Inspector – not required, but a plus
  • Minimum 2 years of experience performing reinforced concrete and rebar inspections on structural projects
  • Proficiency in reading structural drawings, rebar schedules, and project specifications
  • Experience documenting inspections, preparing daily field reports, and communicating non-conformances
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.4 welding requirements for reinforcing steel (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of concrete mix design, placement, curing, and testing procedures
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple project sites
  • Current training in fall protection, scaffolding and ladders, and work-zone safety (OSHA 10-hour required, OSHA 30-hour preferred)
  • Willingness to obtain additional certifications as needed
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
