Job Summary
Rehabilitation Assistant – Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) / Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) assists in delivering falls-prevention and rehabilitation interventions under the supervision of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to improve mobility, balance, strength, and independence for older adults. Responsibilities include aiding gait training, transfers and safe ambulation, supporting daily living activities, reinforcing home safety strategies, assisting with mobility aids and adaptive equipment, documenting client responses, participating in program planning and group sessions, and contributing to community outreach while maintaining confidentiality and safety. Requires PTA and/or OTA diploma, CPR/First Aid, experience with older adults or rehabilitation clients, strong communication and teamwork skills, ability to work in community settings, and a valid driver’s license. Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Part-time (21 hrs/week); pay CAD 26.02–30.61 per hour.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) from a recognized institution.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Experience working with older adults and/or rehabilitation clients
- Experience in community-based health care or outpatient rehabilitation strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work under the direction of a regulated health professional within a supervised clinical framework
- Experience supporting individuals at risk of falls considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently in community settings with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Competency in basic computer systems and electronic documentation
- Commitment to client-centred, strengths-based care
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment
- Valid driver’s licence, access to a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance required
- English required; bilingualism (French and/or other languages) is considered an asset
