Job Summary
Administer medications to students according to district policy and coordinate management systems for school health services. Serve as a health advocate by notifying parents of accidents or illnesses and securing emergency medical care when contacts are unavailable. Implement mandatory screening programs for vision and hearing, review immunization records, and compile all physical and computerized health reports. Provide health education to students, faculty, and staff while counseling individuals on preventive practices. Act as a liaison between the school, physicians, and parents to assess student problems and make appropriate referrals. Collaborate with committees on Individual Health Plans and report potential safety hazards to leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
- Valid licensed vocational nurse to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners
- Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening
- CPR Certification
- Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Two years nursing experience, preferably in community health
