Registry Patient Access Representative

Job Summary
Obtain demographic and insurance information for preregistration and registration on all patients, communicating financial policies and identifying those requiring early financial counseling. Collect self-pay accounts, co-pays, and deductibles while documenting financial arrangements and scheduling procedures or follow-up appointments in the Millennium system. Verify benefits, perform order entry, and manage pre-certification and managed care referrals for both inpatient and outpatient encounters. Maintain thorough understanding of insurance, registration, scheduling, and authorizations, ensuring all demographic data is accurate across hospital visits. Cross-train in other Access Departments and Facilities as needed, handling high patient volumes and fast pace while utilizing HealthQuest, GPR, IDX, and other hospital systems.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 2 years healthcare related or customer service experience
- Typing skills with a minimum of 35 wpm
- Good communication skills
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
- Must be able to carry objects up to 25 lbs
- Must be able to stand and walk occasionally to frequently
- Must be able to sit occasionally
- Must be able to perform close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing)
- Must be able to handle Blood-borne pathogen exposure
- Must be able to handle Bio-hazardous waste
- Must be able to handle Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors
- Must be able to handle Communicable diseases
- Must be able to handle Electrical shock
- Must be able to handle Floor Surfaces
- Must be able to handle Hot/Cold Temperatures
- Must be able to handle Indoor/Outdoor conditions
- Must be able to handle Latex
- Must be able to handle Lighting
- Must be able to handle Patient care/handling injuries
- Must be able to handle Radiation
- Must be able to handle Shift work
- Must be able to handle Travel
- Must be able to use personal protective equipment, including respirators
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other commercial payers (HMO, PPO)
- CHAA (Certified Patient Access Associate)
- CPAR (Certified Patient Account Representative)
- CFC (Certified Financial Counselor)
- Associate's, Bachelor's or Master's degree may be accepted in lieu of certification requirements or experience
- Familiar with Advance Beneficiary Notice
- Familiar with precertification
- Familiar with ICD-9 coding
- Familiar with Medical Terminology
- Familiar with HealthQuest
- Familiar with Global Patient Registration (GPR)
- Familiar with IDX Scheduling
- Familiar with Millennium
- Familiar with chosen Hospital Estimation Tool
- Familiar with other systems utilized by Patient Access
- Self-motivated individual who can handle high patient volumes and fast pace
