Job Summary
Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and prepare patients for surgery while monitoring vital signs during procedures. Obtain blood and stool samples, perform in-hospital laboratory testing, and take radiographs following safety protocols. Administer medications, anesthesia, and vaccines at the veterinarian's discretion. Provide basic animal restraint, clean exam and lab areas, restock supplies, and maintain medical equipment. Communicate with clients regarding patient plans and concerns while demonstrating professionalism and compassion in all interactions.
Required Qualifications
- State license to work as a certified/licensed/registered veterinary technician in state of desired employment
- Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds
- Ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
- Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
- Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications, etc.
- Basic math and ability to calculate medication dosages
- Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety
