Job Summary
Registered Respiratory Therapist I provides respiratory care in the Carolinas Medical Center Respiratory Therapy Services. Responsibilities include administering oxygen delivery and various ventilation modalities, initiating and monitoring mechanical and non-invasive ventilators, evaluating current therapies, and making recommendations for plans of care and patient education. The role requires performing diagnostic procedures, blood sampling analysis, documenting therapy and results in the EMR, communicating with the health care team, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The position operates on FT nights (36 hours per week) with benefits, and requires NBRC RRT credential, state licensure, BLS, and facility-specific advanced certification; an Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy is required (BSRT preferred). Proficiency in respiratory equipment, strong organization and communication skills, and the ability to work independently across care areas are essential. The department emphasizes safety, annual proficiency, and adherence to PHI protections within the hospital setting.
Required Qualifications
- Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required
- Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner/Licensed Respiratory Therapist in the state of work
- Basic Life Support for healthcare providers through the American Heart Association
- Advanced certification per facility/department
- Education Required: Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy (or equivalent experience)
- Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Therapy required
- 2 years critical care experience for Free-Standing Emergency Department; or equivalent for all other areas
- BSRT preferred
