Job Summary
Evaluate and administer therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care and life support to patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Consult with physicians concerning the development and modification of patient care plans. Autonomously manage ventilator protocols, including weaning patients off mechanical respiratory support, while treating complex cases such as adult cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, heart and lung transplantation, and interstitial lung disease. Neonatal units offer treatment for the sickest babies in the region. Work flexibly or on PRN shifts at UAB Medicine, Alabama's largest health system, serving over 1.2 million patients annually across numerous hospitals and specialty care clinics.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy
- Currently registered as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist (LRT) with the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy (ASBRT)
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
