Job Summary
Conduct invasive cardiology procedures including pacemaker/ICD insertion, lead extraction, and EP studies under direct provider supervision. Administer contrast materials, medications, and radiation doses while maintaining sterile fields and recognizing allergic reactions. Prepare and position patients, troubleshoot electrophysiology equipment, and perform skin suturing as needed. Document clinical information, verify patient identification, and instruct new staff. Work variable shifts including late shifts to meet department needs.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist - Radiography - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Registered in Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Associate's Degree: Radiologic Technology
- Certificate of Completion: Radiologic Technology
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be available for weekend shifts
- Must be able to work around and maintain a sterile field during procedures
- Must be able to recognize and respond to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions
- Must be able to assess patients for allergies
- Must have a working knowledge of all Electrophisiology supplies
- Must be able to pull supplies needed for a variety of procedures
- Must be able to perform skin suturing
- Must have basic knowledge of ECG interpretation
- Must be able to troubleshoot Electrophisiology equipment
- Must be able to understand and run the pacing stimulator during ablations and EP studies
- Must be able to perform Electrophysiology Procedures to include Pacemaker/ICD Insertion, Implanted Loop Removal, Lead Extraction, Left Atrial Appendage Closure, EP Study, and Radiofrequency/Cryo/Pulsed Field Ablation
- Must be able to administer contrast material (when applicable), according to physician's request, by means of existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and placing IV line
- Must be able to recognize and adapt to potential changes in procedures while responding to emergent situations
- Must be able to accurately inform procedural nurse of correct doses of intra-procedural medications, radiation and sponge/sharp counts
- Must be able to prepare and position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately
- Must be able to prepare and administer medications within accepted scope of practice
- Must be able to explain procedure to patient and provide for patient care- including comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality
- Must be able to check for correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position
- Must be able to compile pertinent clinical information pertaining to lab, pathology, etc
- Must be able to document accurately and completely
- Must be able to assist the physician in all procedures
- Must be able to assist in instruction of new staff as necessary
- Must be able to take late shift duties as assigned to meet department needs
