Job Summary
Implement AgeCare policies and procedures on the unit in collaboration with the Registered Nurse while providing direction to Personal Support Workers. Liaise with physicians and external health care partners, ensuring residents' care needs are met and notifying the physician immediately of any significant changes in resident status when the Registered Nurse is absent. Participate in shift reports to inform all team members of status changes and contribute to the revision of unit procedures. Requires a current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and knowledge of relevant provincial and federal statutes. Required Qualifications
- A sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing including activation, nursing, and personnel administration
- Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations
- Knowledge of the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act
- Knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act
- Knowledge of the Pharmacy Act
- Knowledge of the Food and Drugs Act (Canada)
- Knowledge of the Controlled Substances Act (Canada)
- Knowledge of the Health Promotion and Protection Act
- Knowledge of the Personal Health Protection Act
- Knowledge of the Coroners Act
- Knowledge of the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice
- Knowledge of other pertinent Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statues which influence the operation of the Nursing Home and more specifically the nursing department
- A current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Membership in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
