Job Summary
Conduct Registered Practical Nurse duties on the Surgical Inpatient Unit, including intramuscular injections, intravenous therapy initiation and discontinuation, blood transfusion, wound care dressing, and medication administration. Perform patient health teaching and demonstrate competency in assessment and management of patients with continuous peripheral nerve block and patient controlled analgesia. Ensure excellent attendance and discipline-free record-keeping while applying equity, diversity, and inclusion principles in health practices. Work 8 or 12 hour rotating shifts on weekdays, evenings, nights, and weekends. Requires current RPN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, BCLS certification, and at least one year of acute surgical experience.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from a recognized Registered Practical Nursing two year diploma program
- Current Registered Practical Nurse registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current BCLS certification
- Experience with patient health teaching
- Demonstrated competency in a variety of skills including (but not limited to), intramuscular injections, intravenous therapy initiation and discontinuation, Blood Transfusion, Wound Care Dressing, Medication Administration, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge in assessment and management of patients with continuous peripheral nerve block (CPNB) and patient controlled analgesia (PCA)
- Minimum 1 year acute surgical experience
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record

- Basic computer skills and Meditech experience
- Knowledge of community resources
