Registered Practical Nurse provides professional nursing care to residents in collaboration with the Registered Nurse, directing Personal Support Workers on the unit. Responsibilities include implementing policies and procedures, liaising with physicians and the health care team, notifying the physician of significant changes in resident status, ensuring residents’ care needs are met, participating in shift reports, and contributing to procedure revisions. Requires knowledge of geriatric/long-term care nursing, and compliance with relevant acts and standards (e.g., College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice; Health Disciplines Act; OHSA; Pharmacy Act; Controlled Substances Act; Coroners Act). A current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and active membership are required.
