Job Summary

The Registered Polysomnography Tech (RPSGT or RST) provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under Sleep Center leadership. Responsibilities include preparing patients, explaining procedures, reviewing clinical data, operating polysomnographic equipment to obtain diagnostic waveforms, and determining testing modalities. The role involves documenting detailed technical reports for physician interpretation, reviewing studies with physicians, performing neurodiagnostic procedures without direct supervision, monitoring test quality, coordinating patient scheduling and related office tasks, and maintaining continuing education. Duties include sleep staging and event scoring per American Academy of Sleep Medicine guidelines, troubleshooting equipment, and ensuring adherence to hospital policies. The position requires staying current in the neurodiagnostic field and may involve travel to alternate locations.

Required Qualifications

  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, required before patient care)
  • Polysomnography State Licensure if applicable based upon state of practice (preferred; required if practicing in Virginia)
  • Must have one of the following (required): Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists
  • Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) Certification by the American Board of Sleep Medicine
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) in state of practice - Sleep Disorder Specialist (SDS) credential (required for RT)
  • Education High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Work Experience At least one year of previous experience in neurophysiology or sleep disorders medicine (preferred)
