Job Summary
The Wound Ostomy Nurse (WON) provides expert, integrated, cost-effective quality patient care through coordination of clinical care for high-risk patients with complex issues across the continuum of care settings. The WON integrates knowledge of advanced pathophysiology and human responses to health problems to assess, plan, coordinate care, monitor and evaluate patient outcomes. It supports nursing practice across settings, functioning as care provider, educator and consultant in various Mayo Clinic locations. The role includes leadership via preceptor and quality-improvement activities, mentoring and teaching, and participation on committees. The position requires RN licensure, CWOCN certification within 24 months, BLS, and flexibility to cover a schedule that may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and on-call. Successful sponsorship is available through TN sponsorship; F1 OPT for qualified applicants; STEM OPT restrictions apply. Wons may work at multiple sites as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program
- Current RN license by applicable state requirements
- WON Certification within 24 months employment in the position
- Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends and on-call
