Job Summary
Assess, track, and deliver medical care services to residential clients, including health assessments at admission, immunizations, and minor injury treatments. Coordinate physician appointments, transcribe orders, and educate staff and clients on disease management and triage. Supervise medication distribution, document interventions in electronic records, and provide in-service training on universal precautions and first aid. Visit home settings to assess medical concerns and act as a consultant for staff, families, and residents on medical and psychiatric issues. Regular participation in supervision and team meetings for planning and feedback. On-call availability required for consultation or assistance, with specific weekday and weekend compensation rates.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing
- Must possess current license as a Registered Nurse from the State Board of Nursing
- Must be able to provide health assessments for residential clients at admission and as needed throughout their stay
- Must be able to assist with maintaining client's medical files, assuring that licenser regulations and Wedgwood standards of care are maintained
- Must be able to provide immunizations for clients and staff; provide TB skin tests for staff as requested
- Must be able to provide treatments for minor physical injuries for both clients and staff
- Must be able to provide COVID testing as indicated by COVID protocol
- Must be able to coordinate appointments with physicians, psychiatrists as needed
- Must be able to transcribe physician's orders to medication history sheet and inform direct care staff of prescribed treatments
- Must be able to educate staff on treatment procedures and assure that all prescribed treatments are followed
- Must be able to monitor the effects of services in improving the health of individual residents
- Must be able to provide supervision of medication distribution, assuring that medications changes are implemented and that medications are given as prescribed
- Must be able to act as a consultant for staff, family/guardians of residents, and residents on medical and psychiatric issues
- Must be able to provide in-service training for staff on health-related topics (e.g., universal precautions, first aid, CPR, etc.), as requested
- Must be able to teach clients about any aspect of disease (especially HIV, TB, and STD's), diet, normal adolescent development, etc.
- Must be able to visit home settings regularly to assess medical concerns and demonstrate triage ability
- Must be able to document all nursing interventions in the client's electronic medical record
- Must be able to inform supervisor of any medical/safety issues relative to the living/working environment at the agency
- Must be available for on-call consultation or assistance as required
- Must be able to participate in supervision meetings and team meetings for the sharing of ideas, feedback, and department planning
- Must be able to ensure timely Quality Assurance compliance as related to employee's roles and functions
- Must be able to work a 5-day work week until trained on-call
- Must be able to work a 4-day work week once fully trained
- Must be able to work one full week of being on call a month
- Must be able to work without weekends
- Must subscribe to the Statement of Faith of Wedgwood Christian Services
- Must agree with the goal, purpose and objectives of the agency
Desired Qualifications
- At least two years of experience working within a hospital, residential facility or an industrial setting preferred
- Prior experience working with an adolescent population is preferred
