Job Summary

Provide community mental health services in non-hospital settings, including clients' homes, shelters, and community residences. Support community providers with education and consultation while operating through eight specialized teams based out of Carlingwood Shopping Centre in Ottawa. Maintain current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, CPR certification, and knowledge of mental health/addiction issues, MHA legislation, and psychiatric nursing standards. Demonstrate leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills when responding to complex, rapidly changing situations with diverse individuals. Ensure valid driver's license and reliable transportation access.

Required Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Up to 3 months' Nursing Experience
  • Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues
  • Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice
  • Able to meet the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses
  • CPR certification within the last 12 months (BCLS at a minimum)
  • Evidence of continuing professional education
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
  • Problem solving, leadership and management skills in responding to complex and rapidly changing situations
  • Sensitivity, skills and experience working with diverse individuals and communities
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing

Desired Qualifications

  • Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
  • Experience in Mental Health and/or addictions
  • Membership and active participation in a professional nursing organization (RNAO)
  • Experience working with homeless individuals or those at risk of homelessness
  • Experience working in the community and knowledge of community resources
  • Bilingual (French/English)
