Job Summary
Provide quality nursing care to patients in the surgical services unit and PACU under program manager supervision, adhering to CNO standards and unit protocols. Maintain clinical competence through ongoing participation in continuing education and actively contribute to hospital-wide quality assurance and risk management initiatives. Demonstrate surgical nursing knowledge, medication administration skills, and the ability to work independently under pressure in a fast-paced environment. This temporary part-time role requires current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, completion of post-anesthesia care and operating room courses, and valid BCLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. Candidates must possess strong organizational skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work shifts and be on call. Brockville General Hospital offers onsite training for advanced life support certifications and supports staff progression through its quality improvement programs.
Required Qualifications
- Registered nurse
- Current member in good standing of the college of nurses of Ontario
- Post anaesthesia care nursing course
- Post degree operating room course
- IV certification
- BCLS certification maintained throughout employment
- Knowledge of ORNAC/OPANA/NAPAN standards of practice
- Excellent assessment skills
- Demonstrated surgical nursing knowledge
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills in stressful situations
- Good interpersonal skills with an ability to work well and effectively with a variety of staff, patients and family
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated competence in the administration of medication
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to accept direction and feedback
- Computer literacy
- Good attendance and availability
- Ability to work shifts and be on call
Desired Qualifications
- ACLS certification
- PALS certification
- Critical Care experience within the last two years
